The nightly gathering-together during Hanukkah is a special and celebratory time for families around our city. But often there are a few bigger, more public parties that happen on the Sunday that falls during the eight-night holiday. And while there are usually traditional lightings at these Festival of Lights festivities, participants also enjoy music and tasties and the occasional menorah built out of LEGOs.
The colorful, kid-built menorah will be a centerpiece at the Original Farmers Market celebration on Sunday, Dec. 5. Young partygoers can also make cards while the grown-ups can purchase latkes for snacking, watch the entertainment (courtesy of Groovy David and Friends' Menorah Spectacular Show), and shop for holiday table favorites like brisket. Time is 2:30-5 p.m.; Groovy David goes on at 4. Food will be additional, of course, but the partying is free.
The Skirball Cultural Center's Down Home Hanukkah will also boast snacky goodies and musical performances, as well as people juggling and acrobating and telling stories. There will also be ribbon-weaving and handkerchief dolls and a whole kaboodle of holiday traditions that people can participate in. Cost is $10 general, date is also Sunday, Dec. 5, and the time is 11 a.m.
