Drink This: Kabocha Shots at Nobu

Drink This is NBCLA's weekly taste of local sips

Your job: get to the bar. Our job: Help you find that perfect drink. This week, NBCLA's "Drink This" journey takes us out for...

Dessert & shot: It's a one-two special at Nobu West Hollywood, on through Thanksgiving 2009.

The dessert: Kabocha, or Japanese pumpkin, is at the heart. Caramelized Kabocha seeds, Kabocha creme, caramel and coconut ice creams, and a bit of vanilla finish the fall flavors.

The shot: Pureed Kabocha, plus rum, condensed milk, and nutmeg.

Condensed milk: We're fond of all the flavors in this sweet and its companion sip, but the condensed milk has us looking twice. Because it is not common in cocktails. Because it has a smell that is all at once fabulous and fuddy-duddyly homespun. In fact, Demeter makes a condensed milk perfume. We've worn it.

$14: The price for both dessert and shot.

Nobu West Hollywood: The minimalist decor has plenty of autumnal hues swirling about. So you'll be reveling in the season on the outside as it warms you from within.

The one-two: We're seeing a lot of holiday sweets coming down the Christmas-y conveyor belt, as usual. And, the usual candy-cane-peppermint-liqueur toddies. But rarer are the match-ups, like drink and dessert. This twosome is making us feel mighty merry indeed.
