Eat This: BLT Night at Dakota

Eat This is NBCLA's twice-weekly look at the best meals in town.

Your job: Get to the restaurant. Our job: Help you order. This week, NBCLA's Eat This journey takes us out for...

BLT Night: It's every Tuesday, it's at Dakota Chophouse, which is at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Aren't BLTs just bacon, lettuce, and tomato? Yes, but not just. There are six spins on the BLT on the special Tuesday menu, plus  a section wholly devoted to constructing your own work of edible art. All selections incorporate a meat and a vege/fruit; there are interesting variations on the tomato, too.

Examples: The BLT Salad includes braised pork belly, mache (a lettuce), and heirloom tomatoes. The Lardon Pizza has a sheep's ricotta, lardon, and basil.

Tradition: There's a straight-up (but sumptuous) BLT on bread on offer. Or, you can build your own, with ingredients like carmelized onions, fried eggs, and pickled tomato. And jalapeno tomato jam. We'd probably eat that on ice cream.

Prices: The Classic BLT is $11; the Sweetbread Club is $17; the Build Your Own starts at $11. Sweet potato chips are the crispy between-bites side, or you can choose russet. Go sweet potato.

When again? Tuesdays, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, 5:30 'til the bacon stops sizzlin'.

Jalapeno Tomato Jam: We just had to type that one more time.
