"The Nutcracker" swirls, like thick cream into a deep cup of cocoa, together so many of the things we love about this time of year it really is hard to count them all: dance, big, dreamy sets, fancy costumery, romance, dancers picking up other dancers and twirling them, snow, drama, sword-rattling rats...
The Moscow Ballet, a company applauded around the globe for its inventive take on tales long told, has become synonymous with the ballet. In fact, they've given it their own spin, right down to the title: "The Great Russian Nutcracker." The company incorporates the traditional touches that audiences want and expect, but takes the play to another level, with a rich, colorful look and a visual ode to the painter Rousseau.
