Fancy Inaugural Balls Only in D.C.? Au Contraire…

We admit it. The variety of inaugural balls going down in our nation's capital staggers and delights -- this party honoring this state, this shindig honoring this civic group -- and it gets us feeling a wee bit jealous out here in the west. But we shouldn't simmer, because LA is putting some very serious parties on. And while many of them will be of the "gather around the bar and snack on pretzels and watch the TV" sort -- nice and conversational and low-key -- the Art of Change Ball is much bigger, much glammier, much much.

The emphasis is on artists, music, food, and celebration. A number of DJs are spinning, there are Carbon Grill eats available for purchase, and Mutaytor and Crystal Method are performing. And, of course, President Obama's speech will be replayed for the crowd, which will be, one predicts/hopes, dressed to the nines ("splendid attire" is encouraged; in short, leave the ho-hum slacks/shirts in the closet and pull out your feather, sparkly duds).

Expectations are that this one will go past midnight, so better clear the whole sleeping-in-tomorrow bit with the boss today. And if you are the boss, think about rounding up everyone in the office and heading downtown. This will be a party people will be reminiscing about for some time to come.

Note that online presales have ended, but any remaining tickets can be purchased at the gate at 7PM (get there early is our rec).
