Fashion's Night Out: A Subdued Scene at 3.1 Phillip Lim

Last night marked the first ever Fashion's Night Out, an initiative by Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America designed to get people into stores and shopping again. We stopped by a few events around town and this is what we saw:

The Location: 3.1 Phillip Lim on Robertson Blvd

The Crowd: Women wearing Phillip Lim with husbands in tow—and people with cameras shooting the re-issued pieces.

The Scene: Much quieter than at Fred Segal—a staffer was roaming around with trays of pink champagne while a small crowd of attendees browsed the rails and chatted amongst themselves. Most of the action was centered around the NomNom truck, which was giving away free banh mi sandwiches in the parking lot.

The Spending: A staffer told us that they'd sold several of the limited-edition pieces within the first few hours of the night—however, these mainly went to regular customers who phoned in their orders or arranged to come by the next day. Had the designer been there, we have a feeling things would have been a bit livelier—after all, our colleagues in New York reported that his Manhattan store moved $30,000 of merch last night, thanks to Lim's presence. Either way, we still give the shop props for staying open and making an effort, which is more than we can say for the other luxury stores in the neighborhood.
