Stumble out of bed and stumble in the kitchen? We do it daily, always with Miss Dolly Parton crooning along in our minds. We fully admit that "9 to 5" had that kind of profound impact on us. Now the sparkly, singy musical based on the 1980 movie has just a week to go at the Ahmanson, and we're determined not to miss it. The cast has received kudos, but really, all we need to hear is that Allison Janney is unleashing her sassy, tell-it-like-it-is ways up on stage (we'd pay to watch two hours of just that). Add in the uproarious, atta-girl plotline of one of the best films of the last few decades, and we're over the musical-theater moon.
But we would kindly suggest that Miss P. might need to update those lyrics pretty soon. Does anyone really get off at 5PM anymore? It should probably be more like "9:15 to 6:35" (although we suppose that's a mouthful for a musical title).
