Fire Victims Assistance Available

PASADENA-- Residents who had homes damaged or destroyed in the recent wildfires in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and Santa Barbara counties can now register for state and federal disaster relief with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, officials announced today.

Those affected should also contact their insurer, if they haven't already done so, representatives of the governor's Office of Emergency Services said. But  residents don't have to wait for an insurance settlement before registering with FEMA, they said.

For general information on filing FEMA claims or registering, residents should call (800) 621-3362. Registration calls will be answered daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Or, people can register online at www.fema.gov.

After registering, applicants can dial the same number from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily to check on the status of their claim.
