When people say "there are two kinds of people in this world" they're commonly wrong; groups cannot be broken down so evenly over a single idea.
Unless you're talking surprise parties, which we do actually think is the exception to the rule. People either seem to avoid them like all get-out or they LOVE them and can't get enough of the mystery and secrecy surrounding the planning and location.
We're speaking to those people now, who will surely be all over the upcoming, oh-so-intriguing Pop Up Dinner Los Angeles. It's an urban picnic happening on Saturday, Aug. 25, but here's the headline: Location Unknown. Well, it is known to the planners, of course, but diners who make a reservation won't find out where to go before the morning of the 25th.
The words "flash mobs" and "Gatsby-esque" have been tossed about, if that piques your curiosity further.
Following, surprise buffs? Okay. More hints surrounding this mealtime mystery being thrown by Hand Made Events: you'll need to wear white, one. Also? You'll need to show with your own "tableware, food, and beverage" (this really is a picnic). Tables and seating and entertainment will be provided. If you do want to go with a pre-ordered picnic, and skip packing your own, you can (for a higher price, natch).
Cost? $28 if you don't pre-order supper, $78 if you do (Three Brothers are the caterers). Part of the night's take'll go to Slow Food Los Angeles.
August 25th is the last Saturday of August this year, so this may be a way for surprise lovers to draw out the summer's good times a bit longer.
