Former Uber Driver Accused of Raping Girl Declared a Fugitive

The alleged attack occurred in the Uber car near the victim's home in Laguna Beach, police said.

A 24-year-old former Uber driver who was charged with raping a teenager in his cab in Laguna Beach was being sought by authorities Thursday after failing to appear in court.

Samer Alaaeldin Mahran of Huntington Beach failed to appear for a pretrial hearing Wednesday, prompting Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Fitzgerald to issue a warrant for his arrest, said Senior Deputy District Attorney Heidi Garrel.

Mahran is charged with rape by use of drugs, forcible oral copulation by a controlled substance, sexual penetration with an intoxicating substance used on the victim, and statutory rape of a minor, according to court records.

The alleged attack occurred in the Uber car near the victim's home in Laguna Beach, police said.
