If this is that summer -- you know that summer -- the summer you vow to take advantage of more only-in-LA offerings, and more free offerings, too -- then you'll want to mark down Friday, May 21.
That's the date that Dance Downtown opens for summer 2010. Maybe you know it by that name, maybe you know it by the Friday-nights-where-many-people-sway-cinematicly-on-the-Music-Center-Plaza-for-free.
However you know it, it is here. Up on May 21 is Merengue and Cumbia. There will be lessons. There will be live tunes and/or deejaying. There will be 3 1/2 hours of convivial shaking of what you've got.
A few things to know. Dance Downtown doesn't happen *every* Friday during the summer -- there are nine Fridays total between now and September, each with a different style of moving -- so when one comes along, go. And two, donations are accepted. If you really pick up on some steps, you might leave a little cash to keep this great thing going.
