Grenade Found in Silver Lake

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Police Department officers shut down a two-square-block area of Silver Lake on Friday after a grenade was found at a suspect's home, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. when police received a call reporting that a man in his 20s was walking around with a gun in the 2300 block of Tracy Terrace, said police spokesman Jason Lee. The man was taken into custody, the newspaper reported.

A search of his nearby home turned up the grenade. The streets were closed while bomb squad investigators inspected the grenade, which they determined was inert. The neighboring streets were reopened about 9 p.m., according to the Times.
