Halloween Horror Nights Gets Graphic (Novella)

Halloween Horror Nights gets a comic book.

When it comes to envelope-pushery, few people can compete with the devious geniuses who put their awful all into creating the scariest mazes and attractions at our theme parks come October.

Every year it is something, right? A maze has a creepy new illusion, or a fresh monster debuts. But we've just come across something that we've yet to see in the world of Halloweenia: the graphic novella. Of course, horror and comics go together like Frankenstein and the high-haired Mrs., but "Vampyre: Castle of the Undead (Blood Secrets of the Iron Guard)" is specifically tied to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Hollywood.

Universal, in fact, says that "Vampyre" is "the first graphic novella to be based upon a Halloween theme park maze." Patrick Ian Moore is the artist, and John Murdy and Max Nichts lent inspiration and story (Mr. Murdy, of course, is the famous maze-thinker-upper at the theme park).

The novella will be serialized on the Halloween Horror Nights site, and there will be copies for "a few lucky event guests." Halloween Horror Nights opens on Friday, Sept. 24.

Reading about a world and then being able to enter that world -- novella, Universal. Very novella.
