Happy 230th, Los Angeles!

Join the annual walk from San Gabriel to Olvera Street.

All good birthdays last a few days, right? Your friends throw you a party, then maybe your mom, and then you treat yourself to a movie later in the week.

Our city is no different. LA's birthday is just ahead -- it's 230 years for El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles de Porciuncula -- and, as is tradition, the festivities will be multiple and they'll happen over multiple days, too.

The highlights? First up is the traditional walk from Mission San Gabriel to Olvera Street on Saturday, Sept. 3. Brunch will follow at El Paseo, and a ticket is twenty dollars. "Please wear your Early California/Spanish/Native American attire," says the event's site. Also? You'll need to be at the mission at 6 a.m. It's a nine-mile trek, so whatever attire you do arrive in, take walking shoes into consideration.

Then on Sunday, Sept. 4, there will be cake. The mayor will also be present, and there's a party going down at Olvera Street for a good part of the day (you can also start out at Union Station for a walk over to Olvera). Sept. 4 is actually LA's birthday, if you want to know specifics. And we're sure you do. Where were you on Sept. 4, 1781, when the city you love was just getting going?
