Heritage Square Lamplight Celebration

Celebrating the 2009 holiday with a dash of 1909 (and earlier).

The doilies and the drapes and the tassels. All the tassels.

Did we mention the velvet, too? Houses today look a tad bit different than houses did, say, a century or more ago. But people today aren't all that different. We still like to see an abode doing it up come December.

Heritage Square Museum, the gathered-together neighborhood of Victorians sitting just off the 110, currently has a few of its landmark homes done up for the season. In fact, the Lamplight Celebration, happening Saturday, December 5th and Sunday, December 6th, spotlights what a vintage home might have looked like during a Christmas party long ago.

Saturday got almost sold out, no surprise, but tickets are still available at this typing for December 6th. Adults are $20. What you'll see: an end-of-the-19th-century ball, silent movie screen tests (you can participate), and tables laden with sips and snacks (think cider -- toasty).

Time is 4-9PM on Sunday, December 6th, and reservations are necessary. Check out the site, and call 323-225-2700 ext. 224 to secure your place.

This is all putting us in a very mistletoe-ish mood.
