Katy Perry's So Very. Plus: Free Franz Ferdinand Show

The girly parasols perched just so, the glossy-belted outfits, the come-hither peeps over one shoulder. No wonder the world (and maybe other worlds, too -- we wouldn't be surprised) is full-on crazy-in-like with songstress Katy Perry. Those who were expecting a one-hit wonder situation after "I Kissed a Girl" shot to the top of practically every chart a song can shoot to the top of have to be eating their words right now. Several solid singles later (including "Thinking of You," a great song for driving around in an overly hot car on a hot day) and one gets the feeling that Perry is just getting going. Saturday, January 31. The Wiltern, 3780 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles. 213-380-5005

Free gigs at Amoeba Music frequently bring out the fans in droves (drove=ginormous amount), and the Franz Ferdinand show on Friday, January 30 will not be an exception. In fact, with all the buzz a-buzzin' out there, this one may be bigger than most. Good thing, then, that Amoeba will be streaming a live telecast on its web site for the people who could not get in, as well as the FF followers who live elsewhere. Reports on the new album "Tonight" says there is electronica involved, and some more mixing-it-up of styles. Nice. Friday, January 30, 7PM. Amoeba Music, 6400 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood. 323-245-6400
