LA Epicurean Festival

Wines, mushrooms, cheeses and more get the Sofitel spread.

LA Epicurean Festival

You want a tried-and-true trio that's been around for a good amount of time? Try Sunday afternoons, summer sunshine, and the sipping of elegant wines. Those three enjoyable elements, simply put, go way back as a unit. Way, way back. (We're thinking hundreds or even thousands of years here, that's how way back.)

Add some interesting masters of cuisine to the mix, and some bites that go well with vino, and throw in a swank hotel, and you've made something a bit new out of a traditional happening. The LA Epicurean Festival, which is happening at the Sofitel on Sunday, Aug. 28 from noon to 6 p.m., could definitely fit the bill as a new take on tradition.

Yes, there will be sun (or so says the weather), it will be Sunday, and there will be wine. But it won't be all standing around and soaking in the rays, however. There is a sushi demo, the making of cocktails, and appearances by chefs like Michel Richard and Josiah Citrin. Sophie Gayot will also be there. Yep. It's probably just about the tastiest surname in all the land.

If you'd like to join the cuisine-nice confab, the fest has a special deal for NBC LA readers. The tickets run $75 and $100 -- that general and VIP -- but use the code LAEF2011nbcla and nab a general for $40 or a VIP for $65.
