Laird Hamilton Book Signing

We recall battling the flu once and watching a cable program in which Laird Hamilton, all sun-kissed hair and easy smiles, bested gargantuan North Shore waves with less strength than it took for us to reach for our bowl of chicken noodle. And we thought, that man might be the healthiest, shiniest, most able human being alive. Sniffle. Cough.

Hamilton shares his being-alive secrets, as well as his thoughts on the art of surfing and mind-body connection, in his new book "Force of Nature: Mind, Body, Soul (and of course Surfing)" tonight at Barnes & Noble. But if would-be Lairds are searching for straight-up wave maneuvers, know that this book, just released last week, goes much deeper below the surface. Hamilton examines his approach to his super-athletic life and the people who have profoundly influenced him (we're going to take a guess and say that his wife, the lovely and insanely talented volleyball maestra Gaby Reece, is on the list). Fans will also get to know more about the surfer's beginnings (including working with pigs) as well as his take on nutrition and keeping his famous form in peak condition.
