Pau Gasol Off Crutches, Lakers receive Injury Boost

Los Angeles Lakers forward/center Pau Gasol told media that he was off crutches via Twitter.

Three weeks after Los Angeles Lakers’ forward Pau Gasol suffered a tear in his plantar fascia, he revealed that he was off crutches and on the road to recovery. Gasol, who regularly takes to Twitter to keep fans updated on his injury, had a brief online exchange with the Los Angeles Times’ Eric Pincus.

Originally, Gasol tweeted: “Back in the training room this morning. Today it's 3 weeks since I injured my foot. Every day is feeling better. Still no set date for return.”

“Are you still on crutches?” Pincus asked Gasol via the social medium.

“No sir! Back on my feet. #nomorecrutches,” Gasol revealed.

Less than one week earlier, Gasol spoke at Dr. Jerry Buss’s memorial service at the Nokia Theatre. Gasol delivered a message in Spanish to reach Los Angeles’s notable Hispanic population.

When walking up to the podium, Gasol did so without assistance. However, when returning to his seat, the Spaniard required the assistance of the custom-build crutches.

Gasol originally suffered the tear to his plantar fascia on Feb. 5 in Brooklyn. He left late in that game and was expected to miss 6-8 weeks after the next day’s MRI revealed a tear. Luckily, the 32-year-old did not require surgery, so he still provides hope for the Lakers if they qualify for the playoffs.

Gasol helped the Lakers to three straight trips to the NBA Finals and two championships since arriving from Memphis in 2008.
