Smoky Fire at UCLA's Dodd Hall Quickly Put Out

Los Angeles city firefighters knocked down a smoky fire this morning in the basement of UCLA’s Dodd Hall, which houses the philosophy department.

The fire caused minor damage and was extinguished by 25 firefighters who responded shortly after 10 a.m. to reports of heavy black smoke coming from the building’s basement area, said Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers.

No injuries were reported. Fire crews remained at the scene as smoke to help clear smoke from the building’s second and third floors, Myers said.
