LIMERICK CONTEST: It isn't often you're called upon to come up with limericks for cash. Shouldn't that be a weekly pleasure? We're just saying. And we're just saying if we had an ounce more adventure we would have written this paragraph in limerick form. But we've decided to save it up for the Monthly Beach Clean-Up Day in Long Beach, where participants have been asked to don green and think up creative limericks for cash prizes. MAGEE'S KITCHEN: If you know your Original Farmers Market, and we bet you do, you know that the meat-and-potatoes counter near the landmark's northeast corner has kind of a delicious lock on the whole corned beef and boiled potatoes dish, and very much so on St. Patrick's Day. They don't mess with this classic, trust us; it is just made the way they've made it for decades. The Market also has some music to chow down by. Also? Green beer. Saturday, March 17
SHAMROCK 'N ROLL: The Queen Mary has rounded up a bunch of bands for a round of "upbeat Celtic rock." There are three rooms of bands, and the cost is $15, but consider this: The big ship has a package on for partiers who don't want to go home before March 18. Worth considering, especially if you've been jigging your Saturday night away.
ST. PADDY'S SQUARE DANCE: Triple Chicken Foot is set to raise the bows and fiddles at this kick-up-your-heels night in Eagle Rock. It's at the Center for the Arts, and we'd definitely recommend something green, plaid, and full-skirted, just to salute the night's spirit. Cost is ten bucks. Saturday, March 17
ST. PATRICK'S ON NOKIA PLAZA: A rockin' U2 tribute band and a beer garden are two of the features of this afternoon-start LA Live party. There's an LA Kings Fan Fest to boot. Everything begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.
