Liza Minnelli, Grace Jones, Beastie Boys at the Bowl

We know winter is nearly behind us -- and it really is, with spring just a few days away -- when the Hollywood Bowl announces the schedule for the upcoming summer. And, as always, it's a doozy (doozy=delightful, surprising, rocking, jazzy).

"Cabaret" star Liza Minnelli is the first star to catch our eye. The big-voiced, brimming-with-razzmatazz singer -- and part of two of the greatest works of film and television, "Arthur" and "Arrested Development" -- is pure entertainer, down to her sparkly shoes. And while Rufus Wainwright performed "Judy in Concert" at the Hollywood Bowl just a few years back, we're even more keen to see Ms. Garland's talented daughter get the sequins a-sparkling at the fabled venue. See her August 28-29.

Also standing beneath the iconic shell in just a matter of months: The Beastie Boys, in their first Hollywood Bowl bow; the always dramatically costumed Grace Jones; Phillip Glass playing to the film "Koyaanisqatsi"; Death Cab for Cutie; Of Montreal; and Bebel Gilberto. Check the Bowl site for ticket info (single ticket sales begin May 2 at the Hollywood Bowl box office, but, if you want to buy earlier, check into the subscriber series).
