Here are some of the local stories on Inauguration Tuesday...

WATCHING FROM THE SOUTHLAND

Millions of Southern Californians watched as the nation's 44th president is sworn in, in front of the nation's Capitol in Washington, D.C. In downtown LA, people gathered to watch the inauguration on the big screens outside the LA Live complex, where acting Mayor Jan Perry was hosting the festivities. Inauguration-watching parties also were held at First AME Church, All Saints Episcopal in Pasadena and at political haunts around town. At Occidental College in Eagle Rock, where Obama spent two years as a student, they celebrated in the school's Keck Theater.

INAUGURAL SPEAKERS AND POSITIONS ON GAY MARRIAGE

In Orange County,  many of the reverend Rick Warren's faithful were listening closely when Saddleback Church preacher delivered the invocation at the inauguration. The evangelical speaker has espoused anti-gay sentiments, and some see Obama's decision to have an openly gay Episcopal priest also speak, after the swearing-in, as an attempt to quiet warring camps.

BRINGING HOME THE BACON

What does Barack Obama in the White House mean to the Southland? A lot. Since Southern California is one of the biggest concentrations of Democrats in the country, many local politicians say the Golden State has been snubbed for the past eight years when it comes to federal aid.

CRENSHAW DISTRICT SHOOTING

A man in his 40s was shot and killed Tuesday morning at a southwest Los Angeles apartment complex, and two women were hospitalized with stab wounds. The man's name was held pending notification of his relatives. Paramedics took the women -- one in her 40s and another in her 20s -- to a hospital for treatment. Both were listed in stable condition. A SWAT team was sent to the apartment complex to search for the suspect or suspects, and some evacuations were ordered. No arrests were reported.

OFF-DUTY COP SHOT IN INGLEWOOD

In Inglewood, a police officer was hospitalized after an off-duty shooting on Hyde Park Boulevard shortly after midnight. Police are looking for two men in a white Toyota Camry. It's unclear what triggered the shooting, but the officer apparently was getting in or out of his car when the Camry pulled up, and the officer exchanged words with two men inside. One of the men opened fire on the officer, who was wounded but shot back. It's unclear if either of the fleeing suspects was hit; both fled the scene.

TRES PINOS QUAKES

Several small earthquakes have rattled a remote area outside of Hollister. The U.S. Geological Survey says the four largest temblors struck late Monday night and early Tuesday morning and ranged from magnitude-3.5 to magnitude-3.8. The quakes were all centered near the city of Tres Pinos, about 10 miles south of Hollister and 50 miles south of San Jose. Another magnitude 3.0 was recorded at 6:46 a.m. Tuesday.

COOLER WEATHER, RAIN IN FORECAST

Things are starting to cool off after an unusual nine days of weather in the 80s. Forecasters say the adjustment won't be too harsh, with afternoon highs expected to top out in the 70s. But a change in the weather is coming. Rain is possible as soon as late Wednesday or early Thursday.
