Man Allegedly Killed Wife With Hatchet

An 85-year-old man allegedly killed his 55-year-old wife with a hatchet Sunday in unincorporated East Pasadena, then called sheriff's deputies to confess, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The man called the sheriff's Temple Station about 1:30 a.m. and said he had just killed his wife, said Deputy Keith Ho of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

A sheriff's deputy refused to release the man's name.

When deputies arrived at the couple's home in the 100 block of Rosemead Boulevard, near Colorado Boulevard, they found Michelle Lu with multiple stab wounds, according to Ho and Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner's office, who said she died at the scene.

Detective Richard Ramirez told a video crew the couple's adult son was at home, found his parents fighting and grabbed what appeared to be an ax away from his father.

Authorities gave no motive for the slaying.
