Man Charged in His Mother's Stabbing Death in Pasadena

A Pasadena man who allegedly called police and told them he killed his mother was charged Thursday with murder.

Alex Evans, 30, is charged with the stabbing death of his 67-year-old mother, Katrina Evans, along with an allegation that he used a knife in the commission of the crime. He was ordered to be held in lieu of just over $2 million bail while awaiting arraignment Oct. 10 in a Pasadena courtroom.

"Police ... received a call from a man stating he killed his mother," according to a statement released by the Pasadena Police Department. "Police dispatch kept the suspect on the line while officers responded to the scene."

The woman's son was arrested around 9:15 p.m. Monday in the 1100 block of Mentor Avenue in Pasadena, where police found the woman dead from multiple stab wounds, according to police. There was no immediate word on a possible motive for the attack.
