NBC4, Telemundo 52 and the NBCUniversal Foundation awarded $225,000 in Project Innovations grants to five nonprofit organizations. The winning organizations were selected by the stations to help boost innovative programs that are addressing local community issues through innovative solutions in the areas of storytelling, culture of inclusion, youth education and community engagement.
This is the second year in a row that NBC4 and Telemundo 52 awarded nonprofit organizations with Project Innovation grants. To learn about last year's grantees, click here.
The 2019 Project Innovation grant recipients include:
AltaMed Health Services – $75,000
AltaMed Health Services’ “My Vote. My Census. My Health. Mi Voto. Mi Censo. Mi Salud” program empowers Latinos and Millennials living in Los Angeles and Orange County to take an active role in political elections and the upcoming 2020 Census. The Project Innovation grant will help AltaMed continue their voter education, empowerment and mobilization efforts of Latinos around critical electoral events and policy decisions.
LA Conservation Corps - $50,000
Through the “Green Career Pathways” program, Corpsmembers can connect now with jobs in green sectors including urban forestry, recycling, clean energy, sustainable construction, or alternative transportation/manufacturing, and be inspired to become stewards of the environment.
Get Lit Words Ignite – $50,000
The “Literary Riot Media” program is a youth-run, diversity-driven filmmaking program, creative and poetry production space for youth to share their collective ideas and their voice.
Taller San Jose Hope Builders – $25,000
The “Hope Builders’ Workforce Training” program provides disadvantaged youth in Orange County with training in healthcare, information technology, construction or business administration; case management and life skills development; college credits and educational advancement; and, job retention and placement support.
Hillsides - $25,000
Hillsides’ “Youth Moving On” (YMO) workforce development program allows transition-aged youth 16-25, often homeless or exiting foster care/probation, to build skills that will enable them to achieve financial self-sufficiency, well-being, and independence. Based at the drop-in Peer Resource Center in Pasadena, the program offers a job readiness curriculum, paid internships, referrals, and support services and YMO will expand to East Los Angeles.
