NBC4 Sponsored March for Babies, Today in LA Morning Team Kicked-off Walk

On April 30, the NBC4 Today in LA morning team, joined by more than twenty thousand participants, kicked of March of Dimes' annual March for Babies walk, the nation’s longest-running walk.   NBC4 Southern California was the media sponsor again this year.  NBC4’s Meteorologist Crystal Egger, Co-Anchors Whit Johnson and Daniella Guzman, and Traffic Anchor Holly Hannula hosted the opening program and kicked off the walk. Crystal is a long-time March of Dimes “mission mom.”

Walkers started the three-mile journey from the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park passing the L.A. Coliseum, before making their way up to Figueroa Boulevard.

Each year in Los Angeles more than 125,000 babies are born -- the highest number of births in California. Recent data shows that 9.3 percent of the babies born in Los Angeles are born preterm, one of the highest rates among large California cities. Funds raised through March for Babies support the mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
