Near the Window, Please

The chowder can be especially creamy, or the souffle can be notably fluffy, but if you're seated next to a brick wall. Well. You're seated next to a brick wall. Or the swinging kitchen doors. Swing swing swing. Best hope your dining companion is especially charming, and can keep the focus on the food and conversation.

Every so often, though, you find a restaurant where you're not facing a corner, or the hostess stand, or both. Your companion doesn't have to be especially charismatic. And you can watch an ever-changing sky show, the ocean, or a lit-up cityscape, from your seat.

We like a restaurant with fine views, and so do OpenTable.com patrons. They recently voted for the Top 50 Scenic Restaurants around the country, with several Los Angeles, and LA-close, lookers making the Diners' Choice Awards list.

On the roster: The Sky Room in Long Beach, Peaks Restaurant near Palm Springs, Orange Hill in Orange County. There are, of course, beachy entries from Malibu and Dana Point as well. Are you more of a water person, or do you like a sweeping valley twinkling before you? Eye the list, and prepare to savor a sunset over your next steak frites.
