Noche Cubano: Alonso Brito at Mama Juana's

Romantic yearnings, sweet memories and plaintive vocals with a large dose of stylish, old-school cool. Alonso Brito's take on salsa and rhythms straight from Cuba tug the heart and get audiences moving, hip to hip, on the dance floor (no small trick, doing both of those things simultaneously). The great balladeer, who spent many years on the Miami scene before settling in Southern California a couple of years back, is appearing at Mama Juana's Wednesday nights backed by his orchestra. "Noche Cubano" is the name of the show, and the smoky-voiced vibe of the singer truly summons a jet-set party outside a gorgeous hotel near a tropical beach (in other words, break out that sexy dress and bare some shoulder if you plan to shake it).

Tempted? If you're eager to get away to Havana for a night via Studio City, but feel as if you lack the sway, don't sweat it: Mama Juana's offers salsa lessons before AB and his band break into songs like "Bandolera" and "Cuando en Cuba." The class runs from 7:30-9PM (when the live music begins) and costs $10.
