Seventeen people were under detention Tuesday after sheriff's deputies raided an immigrant "drop house" in Compton, authorities said.
Deputies went to the 2100 block of North Dern Avenue about 4 p.m. Monday after someone found a note, written in Spanish, that had been tossed out of a window of the home, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department statement. The note said people were being held against their will and asked for help.
Deputies detained 12 men, three women and two boys, all of whom were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, according to the Sheriff's Department.
One deputy and one of the men were injured in a struggle, and a deputy shot and killed a pit bull that attacked him when an effort was made to open a door at the residence, which had barred windows, the sheriff's department reported.
