When Pacific Standard Time debuted a few months back, it seemed the multi-museum, multi-month art spectacular would be around for some time to come, given its girth and breadth and the thousands of artists and works that would be covered.
Not so. Of course, not so. Meaning there are moments to enjoy exhibits before they close, and this is certainly one of them. "Now Dig This! Art and Black Los Angeles: 1960-1980" is winding up its last weekend at the Hammer Museum, and the institution is bidding farewell with a family-focused day and free admission.
The free admission is available to all visitors through Sunday, Jan. 8; the Free Family Day is on Saturday, Jan. 7 and includes "activities and workshops." And on Jan. 8 "Now Dig This!" curator Kellie Jones will chat with Amiri Baraka, the activist and poet (Ms. Jones and Mr. Baraka are also daughter and father). They'll be in conversation about a book Ms. Jones authored on contemporary art.
Artists featured in "Now Dig This!" include Dale Brockman Davis, Suzanne Jackson, and Maren Hassinger. Some 140 pieces are on display through Sunday.
