Now Open: Social Primer Presents The Good Life, Affordably

Ever the gracious host, Social Primer.com editor Cooper Ray personally showed us around the site's pop-up boutique, which opened Saturday inside Robertson Boulevard's Lily Lodge flower shop. The library-like space is filled with antique finds, artwork and those little trappings Ray feels are necessary for a modern gentleman's life (e.g. personalized stationary), all infused with what he calls his "democratic approach to style and tradition."

"You don't have to be rich to have a really great life—the era of $500 mink eyelashes is over," explains Ray, whose wares mostly cost under $50. Along with the embossed, triple-thick note cards that have become Social Primer's signature—surprisingly economical at $35 for a set of 50—the shop's stately oak cabinets house everything from John Derian canvas totes and decoupage plates to monogrammed playing cards and soaps; from linen cocktail napkins to an antique Gucci stirrup cup and a vintage copy of The Preppy Handbook.

In weeks to come, Social Primer is hoping to receive limited runs of Sperry Top-Siders, Duck Head khakis and Ray Ban sunglasses, all brands that have been championed on the website. Although Ray doesn't see a permanent Social Primer boutique in his future—"I see it all going to the website," he says of his learnings to date—he's planning to share the wealth with the East Coast via a Hamptons pop-up, expected to debut this summer. After all, not including everyone would just be bad manners.
