Gregory Parkinson at Honor Fraser Gallery left via All the Rage/LAT; Propr's presentation photos via The Moment/NYT
Of course, there are always designers who choose to show in an independent venue, away from the fray of other shows. This season, notable presentations included Gregory Parkinson's installation at Honor Fraser Gallery in Culver City and the Propr show, a label created by David Arquette and Ben Harper, held at Arquette's home.
Of Parkinson's spring/summer '09 collection, All the Rage reports "prints, buoyant and reminiscent of Ossie Clark, were varied in design (florals, paisleys, stripes and Rothko-esques color blocks) and the shapes segued from billowing a-line silk skirts to blouses with balloon sleeves," an effect catering to "a modern day Peggy Guggenheim who swooned at her first glimpse of the Taj Mahal."
And from The Moment, the Propr showcase sounds like quite a fete with "a bevy of synchronized swimmers performing to Queen’s 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in Arquette and Courteney Cox’s Beverly Hills pool." Regarding the mostly organic line, filled with "breezy separates" for men and women, Arquette told the blog: “They’re clothes you can crumple up and throw in a suitcase—a little bit gangster, but not much.” And if by gangster, he means crisp and casual, we totally agree.
