Ojai Storytelling Festival

ODES IN OJAI: The 12th Annual Ojai Storytelling Festival does indeed come a week after the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, but let's fight the urge to call it an imagination-stoking digestif. This whimsical weekend devoted to tales told by animated and lively storytellers has been around for over a decade, and the lovers of characters and plot and tension return year after year to lend an ear. The 2011 dates are Thursday, May 5 through Sunday, May 8, meaning you'll be in the hill-sweet valley in time to enjoy all of those famous orange blossoms. (Does the smelling of orange blossoms enhance the pleasure of listening to stories? We vote yes.)

STORIES APLENTY: Ghost Tales are on the schedule. So is Laughing Night. There are even Naughty Tales in the Tent ("get a babysitter," the organizers implore). Whatever your fictional favorite, you'll likely find it. Note, however, that the festival is not taking place at the Libbey Bowl, which is under construction, but the Graduation Grounds at Chaparral High.
