Outside Lands 2012

Tickets are going on sale for one of our state's biggest music fests.

SUMMER'S BIG BLAST: When tired, sunburned concert goers return to the 10 Freeway after a long weekend of springtime Coachella-ing, the talk isn't so much of getting back to work and normal life -- that can wait a few more hours -- but what the next big show and road trip will be. Very often the words Outside Lands are mentioned, and though April to August can seem like a stretch, late summer does have a funny way of showing up sooner than later. Nope, the San Francisco-based concert and the Coachella Music & Arts Festival aren't one in the same -- the differences are plentiful, including the fact that Outside Lands happens to be very much inside the city, where Coachella is very much about the desert -- but there is plenty at both for the modern music aficionado to enjoy. And enjoy they will when the Golden Gate Park-based festival rolls for three solid tune-filled days on Friday, Aug. 10 through Sunday, Aug. 12.

THE MEGA LINE-UP: It's as frankly who's who-sy as a concert festival gets. The names we're about to mention are spread out over the three days, so if anyone intrigues you observe the schedule. Here goes: Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Metallica, Sigur Ros, Santigold, Foo Fighters, Beck, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, Bloc Party. Plus lots and lots and lots more. There are, as expected from a three-day festival of this magnitude, lots of other satellite happenings focusing on beer and food and such. Intrigued? Single-day tickets can by purchased starting on Friday, July 20. Our one last inquiry is this: On the road back home, after another Outside Lands has wrapped, will you be talking Coachella? That's the grand circle of California music festivaldom, right?
