Pico Rivera Community to Honor Military-Bound Students

The nonprofit organization Our Community Salutes' local chapter is holding a recognition ceremony for Pico Rivera High School seniors graduating on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 who plan to enlist into the military immediately after graduation.  These seniors represent one percent of all high school graduates.

NBC4 Meteorologist Anthony Yanez will emcee the event with more than 300 people expected to attend.  Brig. General Kevin Vereen, Deputy Commanding General of Army Recruitment Command and Command Sergeant Major Michele Jones, the U.S. Army's first female Command Sergeant Major, will speak at the ceremony.

"This is a time for celebration for this community," said Dr. Kenneth Hartman, founder of Our Community Salutes-USA.  "The cost of college may hit a tipping point for many students and their families, resulting in more seniors looking at the military educational benefits as an alternative to taking on heavy student loan debt."

The event is free and open to any veteran, but registration is required.  Visit http://ocsusa.org/ocspr for details.
