Plywood Report: Goin/Styne in Brentwood, Beverly Hills' Gitano, Spitz and Versus Downtown

See something coming along for the Plywood Report? Drop it in the tip jar.

BRENTWOOD: The still unnamed neighborhood restaurant from Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne is moving along quite nicely. Note the new green facade replacing the familiar red Hamlet, much activity inside, with the back area all plywooded up. Last check in, Goin said not to expect anything until the first of the year. As for the name, they simply said they just don't want to give anything away yet. [PLYWOOD]

BEVERLY HILLS: It was April when we learned that the name of the new Giacomo and Tanino Drago restaurant in the former Luce space is Gitano, plus hints that the debut would be this summer. But it looks like major construction inside just started with a new exterior barrier surrounding the space on the corner of Canon and Dayton Way. There's potential this will actually open by the end of the year. [PLYWOOD]

DOWNTOWN: There was a little neighborhood meet-and-greet at the new Spitz opening in Little Tokyo last night, and Angelenic took a look around the space, which is surprisingly cool looking for a place that serves "doner kabobs." Look for the official debut in a few weeks. [POST-PLYWOOD]

DOWNTOWN: Also per Angelenic, Versus Nightclub in the former stock exchange building was supposed to open this weekend, but the usual delays has the grand opening set for October 25. The club opens softly next weekend, however, on October 17. But how the local loft-dwellers feel about that is another story. [POST-PLYWOOD]For more stories from Eater LA, go to la.eater.com.
