Puig, Ryu Lead Dodgers To Third Straight Win

Ryu allows 12 runners on base, but just one run

Three wins in a row should not feel this good, and yet here it is making headlines and causing a buzz among fans.

The Dodgers beat San Francisco 3-1 on Monday night behind another quality start from Hyun-Jin Ryu and some more power from Yasiel Puig. The three-game winning streak is just their second this season, and first since the April 7th.

Hyun-Jin Ryu came out with one of those quality, yet stressful, outings on Monday, pitching 6.2 innings, giving up one run on eight hits, and four walks, while striking out just two. He put on a runner in six of the seven innings he came in for, but managed to get out of trouble with two double play balls.

In the second inning, Hunter Pence led off with a single, and scored from second on an Andres Torres double. It was the only run Ryu allowed, despite having the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings.

For the Dodgers offense, Yasiel Puig started the scoring early with a solo home run in the first inning, but the team was then shut down with no hits until the sixth inning when Puig singled.

The score was tied 1-1 headed into the eighth when Nick Punto led off the inning with a double and Mark Ellis reached on an error from pitcher, Madison Bumgarner. With runners on the corners and no outs, Yasiel Puig singled in Punto and Ramirez brought home Ellis on a line drive out.

Puig went 3-4 with two RBI on the night, and has seven home runs in just twenty career games.

Kenley Jansen was given a two run lead, but had to make a four-out save after Brandon Belt reached first base on a dropped third strike. Jansen got out of the inning with three strikeouts.

Since giving up a home run in Pittsburgh to blow a save, Jansen has three saves with seven strikeouts. That homer is the only run he has given up since May 25th and he has he has a fantastic 25 strikeouts with no walks.

Anybody still want to argue that he is not the best pitcher to be the Dodgers closer?

The series against the Giants continues on Tuesday with Stephen Fife on the mound against fellow rookie, Michael Kickham.
