Rare Chance: Mike Grgich Winemaker Dinner

Spend an evening with a vino legend, in Rancho Mirage.

A WINE FAN... probably has a collective of fancy or meaningful buckets in the cupboard, the kind of vessels that have held memorable bottles of chard or cabernet over the years. But even more important than those physical wine-holding buckets is the fan's intangible, heart-centered bucket list, that roster of wishes and dreams that hold a special place. Many of those dreams likely focus on visiting a particular winery during crush, or seeing a beloved vineyard at dawn, or finally sipping a longed-for vintage, the kind that is especially difficult to find, even after years of searching. But add to that bucket list the rare chance to join a legendary winemaker during a special dinner, one that will include the pro's famous libations. And if any winemaker deserves "legendary" and "famous" to pop up alongside his name, it is Mike Grgich of Grgich Wine Estates. You might meet Mr. Grgich, who will celebrate his centennial in just over a half decade, while visiting his grape-lovely property in Rutherford, or, if you're closer to Southern California, you can head for...

RANCHO MIRAGE... on Friday, April 21. The knowledgeable vino expert will visit The Westin Mission Hills Resort for the Le Serate di Vino wine dinner series. Prepare for a "delectable four-course meal" including "Grgich's Calistoga-produced Zinfandel and Fire Roasted Brandt Beef Filet." Executive Chef Joel Delmond is at the helm, and Mr. Grgich will be in the house. Truly, "legendary" is said quite a bit about this winemaker and what he has lovingly built, but it is a handle that's been earned, deserved, and celebrated. Is an evening with Mike Grgich on your bucket list? Rancho Mirage, and The Westin Mission Hills Resort, are your next stops.
