Rockin' ‘n Rollin' ‘n Runnin'

Pound the pavement in your weirdest get-up.

When one dons a costume, or carefully applies a face full of make-up, you can usually expect that person to tread carefully and to never, ever break a sweat. They want to keep the look they're going for on the neat side. No melty face latex, no outfit mishaps.

Then there are the daredevils of the LA Rock 'n' Roll Half-Marathon. While not everyone gussies up in full, Halloween-ready regalia for the running party, a lot of people do. With gusto.

If you want to see some of those people, you can and soon, too. Runners'll be setting off, and returning to, LA Live on Sunday, Oct. 30. The course wends through downtown and pops by USC, so you don't necessarily have to go into the heart of it if you simply want to spectate. But there is a Health & Fitness Expo, too, if you do make for all the action.

Of course, you may want to run. Let's note here that many runners dress up as runners for the run. But those who do arrive in costume get special bonuses. A free beer at the finish line? That's one. A VIP viewing spot at the Bret Michaels show? That's another one. The cheers and affection of a grateful, Halloween-loving crowd? The marathon organizers aren't responsible for that, but we think that's a gift in itself.

Your course and registration info can be found here. Your costume info has to come from your closet and personal inspiration. What's easy to run a half-marathon in? Make sure the eye holes are large and the whole shebang doesn't keep you too hot. Maybe a tutu and a crown will do?
