Saddle Peak Lodge

Saddle Peak Lodge could easily make many a Los Angeles-themed foodie list, such Great Places to Sample Wild Game or LA's Most Bucolic Brunches. We have about 67 of our own various personal lists going at any one time (we suspect everyone does), and Saddle Peak pops up on more than one. No surprise really; it is historic, classy, tasty and gorgeous. Simultaneously.

But the list we've been revisiting most in recent days is Favorite Fireside Spots to Feast. Maybe it is fall descending, and the crispness in the air. Or the nights getting darker earlier. Or that we wish so desperately that we could toss a few pieces of kindling into our apartment's faux hearth (rather than the dinky string of orange holiday lights that is currently and unconvincingly standing in for real flames).  Whatever the reason, we've begun thinking about places around town with really fantastic, pop-and-crackle fireplaces. Like, the most sublime spots to order a hot toddy and watch the shadows flicker for an hour or two. And Saddle Peak sprung first to mind.

Now that we think about it, though, we really should break our fireplace-themed list down a bit more. Favorite Fireplaces to Have a Drink Near, Favorite Fireplaces to Have Dinner Next To, Favorite Outdoor Fireplaces, Favorite Fireplaces Using Fancy Wood... Oh winter, please come faster.
