San Gennaro: Strolling, Calzones, Bada Bingo

We'll take the cannolis, please.

Calzones. Comedy. And the chance to try your hand at Bada Bingo. And the chance to say "take the cannolis" over and over again, until your "Godfather"-loving pals ask you to pay some respect and stop.

The opportunities for merriment and foodiment are ample at the ninth annual Precious Cheese Feast of San Gennaro Los Angeles, which is happening from Friday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Sept. 26 in Hollywood. It's the large and lively and oh-so-LA take on the traditional fall festival that happens in various cities around the world, but probably most notably in most minds, in New York City.

As in New York and parts elsewhere, the food options are fantastic and plentiful. There will indeed be calzones. Many calzones. And baked clams. And biscotti. Just this photo of the meatball sandwiches is enough to sustain us through our morning. And gelato.

Joey Sorice is the host for the weekend, but perhaps you've heard that Mssrs. Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla are very much involved, year after year (they made a Thursday night appearance at the opening gala). There will be ongoing entertainment-style things to watch at the fest.

And about that Bada Bingo. Even if you refuse to play bingo -- and if you do, you should really review that stance -- you can't deny you'd like to just try one card. There's also bocce and cooking demo-ery going down. Still. Play bingo. Once. There are prizes.

We've said before and we'll say it once more: If you see the man in the Precious string cheese costume, stop him for a picture. You don't get many chances in this lifetime to have your photo taken with a human-sized serving of dairy, and when you do, you take it.
