Scandalous! Rep. Linda Sanchez Is Pregnant … and Single

California Democratic Rep. Linda Sanchez is pregnant with her first child.

Sanchez, 39, is due May 21 and plans to marry her boyfriend of a year and a half, consultant Jim Sullivan, her spokeswoman Marsha Catron said Thursday.

The two met through a mutual friend, Rep. John Larson, D-Conn. No wedding date has been set.

"I've been called a labor leader, U.S. representative, chairwoman, and now I will be proud to be called 'mom,'" Sanchez said in a statement.

"I know that working mothers everywhere balance their time with parenthood and a career, and a congresswoman is no different," she said. "The only thing I am worried about balancing with this pregnancy are my favorite pair of heels!"

Sanchez, who is divorced, was just re-elected to a fourth term representing southeastern Los Angeles County. Her older sister, Loretta Sanchez, also serves in Congress, representing portions of Orange County in Southern California.

Linda Sanchez chairs the House Judiciary commercial and administrative law subcommittee.

At least one other congresswoman also is pregnant. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, D-S.D., who is married to former Rep. Max Sandlin of Texas, is due Dec. 23.

Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., gave birth earlier this year, while Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., had a son last year.

Linda Sanchez would be the seventh female lawmaker to have a child while serving in Congress, Catron said.
