SPARK Los Angeles

Through partnerships with schools serving disadvantaged neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles - and partnerships with various organizations and corporations that host Spark students - Spark LA reaches underserved students at the right moment in their education and development, equipping them with the confidence, skills and career awareness that keeps them engaged, on track and ready for success in high school and beyond.

As a mentor, you’ll host a middle school student with similar interests. You’ll meet at your workplace for two hours each week for 10 weeks. In that time, you’ll teach them about what you do, inspire their curiosity, build new skills and help them learn about career possibilities. Passion and commitment are required for mentors; experience is not. We train you, and our experienced staff is available to support you every step of the way. Spark’s unique volunteer-at-your-desk model turns working professionals into mentors who help students learn how their interests, career goals and education all intersect in a real workplace. Spark Los Angeles launched in 2010, and by the end of 2013, will have served more than 500 students thanks to local support from schools, corporations, foundations and volunteer mentors.
