Spooky House 19

We're mad for the Monday before October 31. That's typically the day themed attractions around town kick into high gear, staying open nightly through Halloween weekend (prior to the Monday-before-Halloween, most scary spots keep mostly weekend hours).  Spooky House, one of the granddaddies of great LA scream palaces, is open for its first Monday starting tonight.

Though it has bopped around the Valley a few times -- we recall when "Bob & Dave's" used to be in the name, and there was some sort of haunted forest near a mall in Woodland Hills -- Spooky House maintains a loyal clientele of Halloweeniacs who show up wherever it lands. A clapboard-y old Victorian, complete with 25 rooms, is now the setting, and the storyline -- entitled "Darkwater Asylum" -- is definitely not recommended viewing for youngsters. Seriously, the people behind this attraction are not joking; the kidlets are best left with a sitter, and adults who frighten easily are best left with a sitter as well. Spooky House more than lives up to its name, and on our last visit we remember hardened Halloween enthusiasts in our group leaving ashen-faced (but laughing with a mixture of relief and fright).

We think a weeknight visit with coworkers might be just the office bonding experience you've been looking for. It'll give you something to gossip about ("remember when that guy from accounting ran away from Chainsaw Man?") for weeks to come.
