St. Patrick's, Meet Earth Day

The OC Marketplace combines two springtime holidays in one.

RAINY MARCH 17: Well, no doubt about it; a full-on weather wallop was forecasted for Saturday, March 17. And the hard rains certainly arrived that morning, insuring that anyone celebrating the holiday outdoors was bound to have a bouquet of wet, wilted shamrocks. With that in mind, many places postponed or fully canceled their parties, including the OC Marketplace in Costa Mesa, which throws one of the green-bowtie-iest bashes in the area. Now the Marketplace has rescheduled, and they've done so with a twist: They're combining their St. Patrick's Day festival with Earth Day. New date? Sunday, April 22.

ON THE SCHEDULE: The roster of Irish dancers will be back on the stages -- we're certainly glad they didn't have to raise a kick in all the damp -- and the food trucks'll be lining up, too. Plus the Marketplace promises an "eco-friendly" dimension to the proceedings, to honor Earth Day. We guess it isn't too much of a stress to pair the holidays; shamrocks and green and nature and togetherness? Okay. If you can't wait for April to get your Marketplace on, they're doing a VW Bug to-do on Sunday, March 25. Yep, it is called Bugstock, but all classic and vintage VWs are welcome.
