La Grande Orange “Grow-cery” in Santa Monica

The brains behind Old Pasadena restaurant La Grande Orange are bringing their market-driven cuisine to Santa Monica—but this time, with added shopping?

According to our sister site Eater LA, La Grande Orange Grocery is set to open in early April. Given the word 'Grocery' in the name, we figured there would be a retail element involved with this venture, and according to a Travel + Leisure review of the original Grocery in Phoenix, we may be right:

The sunny space is small but packed with things you never knew you needed: greeting cards from Paper Joy (a stationery shop with its own outlet a few doors down) and sprinkle-laden birthday cakes complete with fondant candles from Tammie Coe Bakery...LGO owners Kris and Craig DeMarco also sell brightly colored oilcloth wallets, pet toys, and an assortment of olive oils, plus seasonal items like velvet Halloween pumpkins and bags of pink penny candy for Valentine's Day.

We're still waiting for a comment from LGO's management, but we're crossing our fingers that the Santa Monica Grocery will include goodies culled from the city's own local businesses and farmer's markets.
