A new study says reducing air pollution in Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley would save more lives annually than ending all motor vehicle deaths in the two regions.
The study by researches at the California State University in Fullerton also says that meeting federal ozone and fine particulate standards could save $28 billion annually in health care costs, school absences and premature deaths.
The study looked at the economic costs of air pollution in those two areas that have the worst air pollution levels in the country.
Researchers sought to assess the potential economic benefits that could be achieved by reducing air pollution to levels that are within federal standards.
