It's no contest: On a dreary, winter-y SoCal afternoon, there are few places as warm and timber-ish as the Ale and Sandwich Bar at the Tam O'Shanter Inn. We adore the friendly, talented chef who carves the meat and makes chitchat with us, the pints of dark, foamy beer and the old-world feel of the place.
But winning a champagne brunch for two, served in one of the other equally quaint Tam rooms, might draw us away from that ale-laden nook for a morning. On a recent visit to the Ale and Sandwich bar we spied a ginormous gourd in the lobby, with forms near by. A guessing contest! We were a kid all over again.
So the deal is, if you guess the correct weight of Sir Pumpkin, the Tam treats you and a pal to something beautiful and brunch-y, complete with bubbly and cider, first course and main dish. Heaven. The contest runs through October 30, so you need to hightail it to Glendale at once.
And should your guess be off -- and our guess is almost always way, way off (we often think we've eaten like 12 salted almonds when we actually consumed 12 times that many) -- don't fret. Sitting at the cozy Ale and Sandwich while watching a football game on a rainy Sunday is also like winning, and you can do that pretty much any time you please.
