The Market at Santa Monica Place

The Feast ducked in early for an exclusive preview of the Market at Santa Monica Place, which is opening May 20.

The Market will be the new home for Rockenwagner, Curious Palate, Valentino’s pasta, cheese and charcuterie shop, and Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories, among other notable purveyors.

The cooking school is owned and operated by teachers Clemence Gossett and Hadley Hughes, who formerly taught at Surface in Culver City. They'll hold court on opening night with Even Kleiman from Angeli Caffe and KCRW’s Good Food, and will partner with local restaurants such as Locanda del Lago, Ocean & Vine and the Santa Monica Farmers' Market to preside over three days of local workshops during opening weekend.

Down the road, they also expect to see chefs like Alain Giraud using the Gourmandise kitchens (there are two) for recipe testing before his Palisades eatery opens.

Hughes also plans to host beer and cheese tastings, and will offer vegan and gluten-free baking classes along with fellow teacher Ruth Kennison, who specializes in confectionery and chocolate. Mixologist Daniel Nelson from Writer’s Room in Hollywood will be called on to shake things up, too. [The Feast]
